FEEDBACK

Dear Family and Friends,

We thought 2015 was a quiet year, but on reviewing our calendar, perhaps it wasn't so quiet! Judy's highlight was starting a practice of Dayan Qigong: Wild Goose Qigong, a Chinese form of movement and self massage, in March 2015 at Kaiser Oakland. It's been wonderful in helping me regain movement, balance, and confidence after my hip and elbow injury in 2014. Qigong is almost like a choreographed dance, and for me it's challenging, having mainly learned to flail around my arms rhythmically in the 1960s.

Dale and I both continued our involvement with poetry this year. I was honored to give a poetry reading in San Francisco for the crossroads Irish-American Festival from my new book "The Glass Ship", for which I was actually paid. The Irish honor their bards! I also gave readings at Berkeley's Art House and at Nefeli Caffé. Dale, from his new book," Yew Nork", and I gave a joint reading at Expressions Gallery in Berkeley and at the Mill Valley Book Depot in a group reading. Dale is still coordinating his long-running poetry series at Berkeley's Nefeli Caffé on Northside and has been steadily working on a new poetry book with a secret title!

I worked with Jannie Dresser, my most recent publisher, on creating a poetry website - a complicated endeavor which turned out wonderfully, Please check out:

and press some buttons. Some great visuals as well as poems and links to hear me on the radio!

We took a stimulating trip in the fall to Pasadena (yes, California, not Europe) to a reunion with Judy's Stanford-en-France group (from 1963-64). Why Pasadena? One of the participants, the daughter of Stanford's president while I was at Stanford, has strong connections with the Huntington Library and Art Gallery and the Norton Simon Museum, which we visited. The Norton Simon has a wonderful Asian art collection, which we spent some time reviewing. We also visited the Jet Propulsion Laboratory closely connected to Cal Tech and saw a full-scale model of that little Mars Rover and many other spacecraft we've shot up into the heavens.

We also visited the Judson Stained Glass Studio, active for over a century; Kenton Nelson's studio, a graphic artist (often for "New Yorker" covers) who became a very successful painter in mid-career; and the incredible Blacker house, designed by the Greene brothers, and restored beautifully by a craftsman and his son. After the reunion, Dale and I spent several days at Venice right on the beach and boardwalk, a relief from the intense heat of Pasadena, high 90s!

The highlight of the reunion, however, was meeting with my former roommates and travelers from Stanford, talking about our lives, and singing French songs at our final lavish dinner!

This year we also felt deeply shocked by terrorist violence: Charlie Hebdo and more recent bombings and shooting in Paris and our own California San Bernardino massacres. I am more than not rendered speechless and without poetry. I (Judy) can only offer an old poem in honor of the fantasy Paris that many of us have in our minds, but which has changed, utterly.

May each of you have a safe and warm holiday.

Peace and love,

Judy Wells and Dale Jensen

Dear Pamela,
I wrote these poems after hearing the article on NPR ìLaid to Rest.î It was before I had been in touch with you, or read Joeís book.

Beatlick Joe Speer

Traveling Poet,
Green bus, Volkswagen
Wonder if he ever had
To push start it.
Laid to rest
Out west,
Last place of witness,
His old stomping grounds,
Entombed with 86 others,
In similar circumstance,
No dinero.
Remembered in an article
On NPR
By companion, Pamela,
And narrator,
Minimalist, vagabond, poet,
Must have left an impression
On someone
Somewhere
In his travels.
Anybody got a story
ëBout ole Joe Speer?
Iím asking,
Anybody remember Joe Speer ñ
Poet, Artisan,
Traveled the land,
Wayward wanderer,
Pen in hand.

Laid to Rest
Thursday, August 8, 2013,
Got my attention,
Touched me,
Inspired me,
Like no Muse Iíve kissed in a while,
As cancer etched another notch,
Into its smoking gun.
I search the cloud
For residue of his message,
Stumbling through the internet,
Catching glimpses,
Traces of a special spirit,
Not forgotten.
Yet, to be known,
Americana,
Backpack, bandanna,
Cosmic Trekker,
Breaching Horizon.
